Annabelle was ecstatic! She had a vision yesterday morning that her best friend, Scarlet, was almost in Mestillia, coming to visit!

Annabelle had met Scarlet when Anna had worked on the farm, in Tirean, with her parents. Scarlet had come to the farm to buy a horse.

“Hello” Annabelle said to the young woman walking toward her. “Are you here to purchase a horse?” The girl nodded and introduced herself as Scarlet Amery.

Annabelle gave Scarlet a long tour of the farm, and after Scarlet rode a few horses of her choice, the girls walked down to a pond on the premises to talk. They stayed there until twilight, throwing rocks into the water, and picking wild flowers. After that the friends were rarely apart.

Annabelle bustled about, cleaning her guest room for her best friend. After the house was clean, Annabelle walked to town to buy some meat and dough to make dinner. According to her sometimes inaccurate visions, Scarlet would be there in about two hours.

As Annabelle put the last fork in place on the table, she heard a faint knock at the front door. Annabelle grinned and skipped to the door to greet her guest. Scarlet was standing at the door with a huge smile; Annabelle threw herself into Scarlet’s arms and embraced her vampire friend.

“oof ” Scarlet wasn’t surprised by the excitement of her best friend. This was how Annabelle greeted all of her close friends or family.

“You silly little girl! That hurt you know!” Scarlet kept the huge smile on her face to show she was just kidding.

annabelle started to open her mouth, but scarlet caught a delicious smell coming from the kitchens general area and intrupted..

“What is that smell?” Scarlet was in her element. She loved food almost as much as she loved singing.

“It… it smells like… HEAVEN!” scarlet, paying no attention to anyone or anything around her, burst through the doorway. She followed her nose to the source of the scent sent from the heavens.

“MEAT PIES!!” she rejoiced, barley aware of the giggling Annabelle behind her. She clumped down on the chair and began to help herself to the pies.

“So how did you get this nice little place here?” she asked, her face full of meat pies and other delectable things.

Annabelle giggled at the thought of hurting Scarlet.
As Scarlet rushed past her into the house to eat, Annabelle laughed even harder. Scarlet absolutely adored Annabelle’s meat pies.

“My goodness Scarlet! You act so uncivilized when there is food around.” Annabelle teased. Scarlet smiled her mouth so full she looked like an oversized chipmunk.

As Annabelle sat down to eat, her bird Shama chirped lightly, asking for his dinner. Annabelle sighed and threw some dried seeds into his bowl, and sat down to eat with Scarlet and answer her questions.

“I am just renting this house; I do not really plan on staying here very long. Um, I have just been doing some odd jobs here and there, right now I am tailoring in town and doing some home baking and selling them on the street” Annabelle replied then quickly jumped into her own questions “So what have you been up to lately? Meet any cute men? Where are you staying?”

Scarlet glanced around the threadbare house and nodded. It looked like it would be rented, the decorations were sparse and not of Annabelle’s taste.

“Cute men? Come on Annabelle I’ve been with your mother the past 2 months. What cute men would I meet?” Annabelle looked put out at the thought of her mother. She pulled a chair out and plopped down on it, resting her head in her hands. Scarlet put her gloved hand on Annabelle’s shoulder.

“Hush. She’s fine, I swear on my firstborn son. She was just worried for you, so she sent me to look after you.” Scarlet stood up and walked over to the window. The wind was picking up, and the sky looked ominous and dark.

As for where I’m staying, I hadn’t thought that far yet.” Looking into the distance and seeing rain scarlet rethought her decision to leave her home and come her without any plans.

“It looks like a storm is brewing. I can stay here can’t I?” She looked over with ‘pleading’ face on, but it was wasted on Annabelle. She was asleep on the table, her forehead turning red. ‘I guess I’m staying here’ Scarlet though as she carried Annabelle to bed.

At the mention of her mother, Annabelle pulled out a chair and pouted. She hated the fact that her mother was still trying to baby her and keep a look out on her! Annabelle put her head down on the wooden table, trying to cool her temper. As Scarlet continued to talk Annabelle felt herself drift to sleep.

Annabelle scarcely felt Scarlet’s strong hands carrying Annabelle up the steps.
Annabelle felt the soft fabric of her sheets and drifted off to sleep again.

Annabelle’s heart pounded as she sat up from her dream. It was one of those scary dreams where you feel like you are falling out of bed. As Annabelle sat up to get a glass of water she looked over to her night stand and noticed that there was already a glass there. She took the glass and took large gulps to calm her nerves.

After she was a bit more relaxed, she climbed back under the covers and hummed her favorite lullaby and soon drifted back to sleep.

Downstairs Shama, Annabelle’s pet bird, sang his usual morning song. Annabelle sat up and rubbed the sand from her eyes. She looked down at her body trying to remember how she got in her pajamas,
“Hmm~ Scarlet must have put these on me”. Remembering that Scarlet, she jumped out of bed, threw on her favorite yellow dress and ran downstairs.

“Scarlet!” Annabelle yelled obnoxiously “Lets go out for breakfast!”

Scarlet rolled over on the uncomfortable couch, groaning. Annabelle only had one bed, so she had been exiled to use the couch.
‘A fitting doom’ Scarlet thought ‘for a vampire.’ Annabelle must have awoken, for the unladylike sounds emitting from the upper levels of the home could only have been made by her. Well, that or a pack of large wild animals.

SCARLET! Let’s go out for breakfast!” Annabelle proceeded to scream upon her entrance to the kitchen. Scarlet rolled again, attempting to find the edge of the couch. She seemed to have over shot however, and rolled straight off, landing on her butt with an unattractive ‘OOF!.’ She stood up, trying to maintain some of her dignity, but caught sight of Annabelle doubled over in laughter so she gave up.

“Well I’ll be in need of somewhere to change first, but then after we could certainly do that.” Scarlet smiled at her, glad to spend time with her best friend.

She scooped up her blue dress and walked to the bathroom. Scarlet changed quickly, and most certainly quieter that Annabelle had, trying to hurry so she wouldn’t hassle Annabelle. She completed her outfit with tasteful white gloves and small black shoes that barley peeked out of her dress. She took one glance at the mirror, a luxury in a rented home, and pulled a comb through her hair. She gave up quickly though, deciding her hair had been a lost cause for months.

She swept out of the bathroom and took Annabelle’s hand, leading her out of the house.
“Lead the way my dear!” she exclaimed, taking in the clean air and bright sun.

Still laughing at Scarlet’s fall, Annabelle grabbed her friend’s strong hand and led her through the door onto the street.

The sun was unusually bright for how early in the morning it was. Annabelle shielded her violet eyes with her free hand, and continued towing Scarlet along beside her.

Annabelle took a deep breath and the smell of clean spring air, and growing grass mingled with dirt, filled her lungs. “It smells like spring!” Annabelle grinned. Having a short attention span, Annabelle turned her head towards the trees and saw lilacs, her favorite flower! She released Scarlet and ran over to pick some flowers. She gently plucked a blossom from the ground, the aroma of the flower reached her nose, and she smiled and inhaled.

“You know Scarlet,” She shuffled her feet and pushed out her bottom lip to look innocent
“I’m not all that hungry yet, and I know of this wonderful meadow with beautiful flowers~” she turned on the full power of puppy dog eyes, pleading with Scarlet.

Deciding the puppy dog method was taking too long she poked Scarlet’s arm with a grin and yelled “TAG, You’re it!” she took off running, the soft earth squishing beneath her bare feet. In the distance she saw a small creek and leaped over it effortlessly. Deep down she knew she did not have a chance of winning this game, now that Scarlet was a vampire, but she keep running anyway, giggling the entire time. She ran dodging trees, and jumping over logs. She looked back only once seeing Scarlet right on her tail
“You’re letting me win!” Annabelle accused teasingly.
She came to the end of the forest expecting to see the large meadow, but instead saw a large castle, looming over the edge of the forest. Annabelle stopped running and stared open mouthed at the large building, seconds later Scarlet ran up behind her.

Inhaling deeply, and then exhaling in an exasperated fashion, Malvolio drummed his un-gloved hands against the cold wood of the desk below him. All the piles of paperwork that he had slaved over were now complete and on their way to his older 'siblings.'

Now, with nothing to do, the Elder found himself quickly becoming rather bored. He had already explored every nook and cranny of the large castle, twirled his quill pen about, and even tried to sleep. But, alas, nothing he did seemed to quench his metaphorical thirst for adventure, nor quell his already looming Wanderlust. Then again, staying holed up in one place for too long didn’t help his cause much at all.

So, here he was, all alone in a massive castle in the middle of nowhere. “Hm~” He hummed, closing his eyes lazily. He went to take another deep breath in- - someone was here.

Malvolio’s eyes snapped open and he raised his head, immediately rising to full attention. With furrowed eyebrows, the elder stood up from his desk. Quietly, he slipped into the hallway- away from his study and into the large, stone entry way at the front of the home.

Closing his eyes to focus for a moment, he took another breath in- though not for the sake of simple breathing. Many scents rushed into his nose, both from the outdoors and from inside. Quickly, he processed the foreign scents, those of the intruders, and very soon after, he relaxed significantly.

While he couldn’t tell much, he knew there were two strangers outside on his doorstep, one a young vampire, the other a human. Both were lacking obvious malicious intent, he doubted they were dangerous at all, most likely here on a fluke chance.

Returning to a relaxed posture, he waited on the inside of the large, wooden doors, ever so slightly curious to see what the two would do. Would they knock? Or would they take a quiet leave, unaware of the presence behind the walls?

Annabelle ignored Scarlet’s warning stare and slowly walked forward toward the large wooden doors. She was mesmerized by the texture of the grain. And the door itself was massive!

Annabelle walked up the small amount of stairs, stopping on the doorstep, her mouth hanging wide open looking like an idiot. Annabelle slowly reached up to knock on the door. She was curious to see who lived in such a cool place!

She stopped in mid-knock and looked back to check if Scarlet had not run off. Satisfied that her friend would not leave her, Annabelle smiled and turned to face the monster-of-a-door again. She took the knocker in her hand (which was bigger than her own head) and lightly tapped against the wood. After knocking, she glanced back at scarlet, kind of afraid to be standing alone on the doorstep.
“Get up here!” she hissed at her. Scarlet shot one of those "we should have just gone to breakfast" looks, and sauntered up to Annabelle.
After Annabelle was satisfied that Scarlet near, she turned again to wait for the door to open.
